A little about me:
I am a Sussex County native, born right here in Newton. I spent my childhood playing in our fields, streams, and woods, and have a strong love for this part of New Jersey. After graduating from Vernon High School I attended East Stroudsburg University as a Biology Major. I graduated from ESU with a degree in Biology Secondary Education with a concentration in Environmental Science and Chemistry. I am certified to teach both Biological and Physical sciences. Since my first day student teaching in the Newton district in 1995 I knew it was a special place to work and jumped at a job offer the following year. I have been a proud member of the Newton family since that time. I have taught Biology, Earth and Environmental Science, Chemistry, and currently teach a full schedule of Forensic Science. Along the way there have been many life experiences that have continued to inspire and encourage my teaching; I've been a student research volunteer for EarthWatch; an exchange student in England; a teacher's assistant for a herpetology (the study of amphibians and reptiles) course in Costa Rica; taken a year's leave to teach in Alaska; had two children of my own; and I've spent many hours, days, and summers exploring, hiking, gardening, and learning about our local cultural, social, and environmental landscapes. My passion for brain research has informed many of my teaching practices and I strive to stay on top of new developments as it pertains to the teenage brain. My goal as a teacher is simple: I want to inspire students to be learners and become scientifically literate members of our community. I enjoy the challenge of finding that unique element which inspires each of my students to learn. |
